Leave, glorious leave ...
Apr. 19th, 2006 10:18 am.. isn't nearly long enough for the things that needed doing. Week one, mooched around house, couldn't post to here because the household network mysteriously went off air, and just as mysteriously came back on again 2 weeks later without either of us doing anything different, and spent far too much time playing computer games. Also planted a variety of roses and shrubs, dug garden, scrubbed patio tiles (with vetinary soap, since the Tig's habit of drinking from it precludes using anything with acid in), put nicely re-oiled bench back out for summer, lugged compost back from Homebase, lugged stone chips back from Homebase along with stray stone elephant that was just crying out to be adopted, and done a variety of tidying-up jobs around the house. And repaired the drawers in the craft room. And cleaned windows and floors. And opened doors for cats, and fed them (which takes up a remarkably large amount of time). And had a day out.
What I *haven't* done - anything at all on my PhD other than move the piles of paper around; any of the various DIY jobs that need doing in the house; any of the FRONT garden work that needs doing; the accounts; and any of the various personal tasks that need doing, like resizing screencaps ...
There are only five days left, of which two are taken up by work meetings (one of those being Sunday, when I foolishly volunteered to go to Essex Police HQ to see their youth forum in action) and tomorrow by having to dash up to Milton Keynes to return my Open University library books, which I have just realised are 2 days overdue. I wonder if they'll let me claim academic absent-mindedness?
Probably not until *after* I get the PhD (which, at this rate, I never will) ...
The other thing I have ended up doing instead of working is watching RAVEN, which the lovely Sabine kindly pointed out was running on FX. Which means it's on four times a day, twice on FX and twice on FX+. And whilst that's tempting, once a day is an hour I couldn't really spare. But on the other hand, he does look cute, even if the writing is appallingly bad. And yes, I know I have it on DVD, but as any truefan will tell you, there's nothing *quite* like watching something that's actually on air.
