There's a young black and white cat in the neighbourhood who thinks it's very funny to walk the length of our 6 foot tall rear garden wall, driving our elderly cats to distraction. Just wait 'til we have young cats too, that's what I say.
Went for a different picture today, just to prove I have some.
The garden is still looking remarkably colourful. I pat myself firmly on the back for this, usually I can only grow green things but we still have marigolds and a pink Cosmos and a variety of other things, including kobolds (an old joke, for anyone who remembers the original gold box games).
This week I have been to Cardiff - not in order to look for aliens, or Torchwood, or even pay homage to the site, although I may have driven past it when trying to find my hotel - I drove past every other darn thing in Cardiff, so it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest. Mutters about hotels that don't tell you they're in pedestrianised streets.
The annual Youth Justice Board conference was the usual kind of shindig - lots of speakers, lots of seminars, and an exhibition mostly of interest if you work at the pointy end rather than the strategic end where I sit. A variety of governmint ministers regaled us with the products of their script-writing teams (not that I'm a cynic or anything, you understand), and Louise Casey confused everyone by coming as Mrs Angry. Not at all sure what THAT was about. David Cameron demonstrated his speaking abilities, even if the content was far too Conservative for someone raised as Socialist as me - but then, I would've been surprised by anything different. And Tony Blair sent a taped message, about which the less said the better, really.
I encountered some old friends and some new ones, and was hugely flattered by the Inspector from West Yorks who stole my Strategy, who came over and gushed like crazy about how excellent it was and how she tells everyone in West Yorks who wrote it. Which was nice, if somewhat embarrassing! Had an excellent dinner with the regional YJB reps for the south east and some folk from Kent YOS, and I have to say we had FAR more fun that the actual Board representatives sat at the next table.
Also ran into three other people on my PhD course, which was nice as we got to compare notes on what we were all doing (or not doing!).
Next week, office all week; the following week - ACPO Youth Conference at - wait for it! - Stanstead Airport. Oh, joy.
