Fingers crossed for Paradise Cove ...
Jan. 9th, 2007 06:47 pmApparently massive fires are sweeping through Malibu. Or at least one. And all the papers reported on was the couple of movie stars who lived in the areas and whose houses MIGHT be among those burned.
Whilst I sympathise with those who may have lost homes and cherished belongings, I am far more concerned about the fragile ecosystem of Paradise Cove, my favourite place in all the world, where rare species of tree and creature cohabit with a trailer park that once housed Rockford (of Files fame) and of course the Sandcastle Restaurant, which apparently has changed its name to the far less enchanting Paradise Cove Beach Cafe. What's that about, then? I stumbled upon it by accident, and it did one of the best steak dinners I've ever had, with the added advantage of being able to eat it whilst watching the sun sink gently into the smog. Usually.
I also discovered today that the infamous headland at one end of the Cove which has probably appeared in more TV series and movies than a lot of famous actors, is actually named Cape Dume.
Dume, dume I tell you!
Well, it gave me a moment's amusement amidst worrying about encroaching flames.
