Updating again
Mar. 6th, 2006 07:10 pmWaiting for Phoebesmum to arrive on train from London, and actually have a signal, so thought I'd update. Signal tends to be variable - it's a wireless network, which for some reason disappears completely on a Sunday. People Who Know tell me this is impossible, a radio signal can't vary on specific days, but hey, we don't do anything different on a Sunday to any other day!
Have just done another 2 days in Luton, the essay is beginning to have some kind of shape. Cheap accommodation turned out to be just that, though - cheap and pretty nasty, on the whole. It didn't look bad, until I noticed the door lock was hanging off and the last occupant had left with the window blind, complete with fittings. This resulted in very apologetic renter draping towels over window, which prevented Luton from being inflicted with the sight of me undressing but meant I couldn't open the window, which was a pity because it was like a sauna!! Room was minute, and right over the front door, so when people started to come in about 1 am it was *bang!* *bang!* Concluded nobody knew how to shut a door without slamming it.
Recently watched ... hm, well, latest was Harsh Realm, or at least the first 8 eps. Not bad, we were just getting into it. Of course we knew it had been cancelled before we started watching it. Darned silly plot, mind you - tyrant running virtual world wants to destroy real world so only HR remains. Except hey, guy, in order to exist the virtual one HAS TO BE RUNNING ON A COMPUTER. *Sigh*
On the shelf ... last night's Oscars, I excect, if Phoebesmum put a tape in. Results pretty much as expected, rather pleased I must admit for poor old George Clooney who'd lost out in every other awards ceremony and deserved a gong for the work he's done this year. And *yay!* for Wallace & Grommit - I always remember the first year Nick Park got an Oscar (for 'Creature Comforts'), and I seemed to be the only person in the UK who'd noticed. It took them about 2 weeks to spot the fact an English guy had won an animation prize!!
Newly taped, at last: Jeff's MIAMI VICE ep. I had quite forgotten what a terrible outfit they'd given him. "Very 80s," Phoebesmum said, passing through the room and beating a hasty retreat when she saw my cheesey grin. Or possible Jeff's hairstyle, also so very 80s ...
In other news: a member of my team at work has moved on, and I miss him. Otherwise things go on much as ever. Just passed my 10th anniversary with Kit, which is pretty weird. Particularly as I was in Luton on the night in question and so couldn't get together with him!! Although - a card, flowers *and* chocolates for Valentine's, yay!
Fiction writing going nowhere right now. Neverwinter Nights going well - getting close to getting a character right through it (I usually get bored and start a new one, D&D was always more fun in the early stages!!)
Time to go to the station!!
